Collaboration

Each grade level engages in STEM and Innovation Labs on a rotating schedule, typically twice per week during specific quarters. Activities are grade-appropriate, building skills progressively from kindergarten through fifth grade. Parents can expect clear learning objectives for each activity, opportunities for students to collaborate and innovate, real-world applications of STEM and innovation principles, evidence of student growth in critical thinking, creativity and teamwork.

Critical Thinking Labs

STEM LAB

A space where students integrate science, technology, engineering, and math to solve real-world problems. Activities are hands-on and encourage students to apply critical thinking and creativity.

  • Engage in structured engineering challenges like building roller coasters or bridges.
  • Use tools like Cubelets, Makey-Makey and Little Bits to explore science and technology concepts.
  • Participate in Project Lead the Way (PLTW) modules that explore weather, ecosystems, and robotics.

INNOVATION LAB

A creative hub where students design, prototype, and experiment with new ideas. It focuses on problem-solving, collaboration, and applying technology in novel ways.

  • Experiment with tools like 3D printers, Squishy Circuits and Lego Spike kits.
  • Create and test prototypes for innovative designs.
  • Work on "Geek Cart" projects such as hydraulic claws or sail cars.

Community Partnerships

At Irwin, we believe that strong community partnerships enrich our students' educational experiences by providing hands-on learning opportunities, real-world applications and mentorship. Our partnerships help foster curiosity, skill development and academic success across multiple disciplines

Science Central

Science Central brings interactive science experiences directly to our students. Through engaging projects and experiments, students explore scientific concepts in a hands-on way, fostering a love for STEM and deeper understanding of the world around them.

Amp Lab

Through our partnership with Amp Lab, students engage in field trips, STEM-based projects and collaborative venture initiatives that align with Portraits of an Explorer. This real-world experience helps students develop problem-solving skills, creativity and an entrepreneurial mindset.

Project READS

Project READS provides trained volunteers who work one-on-one with students to build reading fluency and comprehension. This support enhances literacy skills and confidence, ensuring students develop a strong foundation in reading that benefits them across all subjects.
